Been there and done that - Egypt P.1

CAIRO

First encounter

The weather in Egypt was hot. The sun shone, too bright. But the humidity was too low and the air was not as polluted as it is in my city. Thus I had not any problem with the sunny and hot weather. I have asthma but even though I climbed and walked a lot in the sun I breathed well there.

Tips: remember drinking a lot water and using sun block or else you'll be dehydrated and be burned by the sun.

Pyramids

My hotel was close to Giza Pyramids (in Giza region - I think they call the area something like Giza district). I could see the pyramids from my window. I visited Giza on my first day in Egypt. It is a circle of 3 big pyramids of the 3 Pharaohs and some smaller ones of their wives and children, etc. We all had this question standing in front of the pyramids. How did they do that? If you do not well-understand the word marvelous, the pyramids can definitely help you.

Try entering the pyramid visiting the area. The Giza entrance ticket excludes the payment for entering the pyramid. The bigger pyramid you choose the more you have to pay. I chose the smallest one and the guide bargained for the price about 5USD. Don't ask me what there was in the end of that tunnel. It's for your own surprise.

There were many camels around the pyramids. Choose a good-looking one and try riding it. It's fun. Believe it or not, it's up to you.

Tips:
1. Don't devour, just choose the smallest one since you'll get tired like hell choosing the big one and you have to pay much more.
2. You'd better bargain for entering the pyramids and the camels, of course. All the price in Egypt can be bargained except for the entrance tickets at visiting sights which are assigned by government and printed on tickets.

Others

Hotels in Egypt provide soap, shampoo, body lotion (some), shoes sponge, sewing kits, shower cap.
They DO NOT provide drinking water, thermos flask, boiling water equipments (as the hotels in China often provide), comb, tooth brush and toothpaste. And the fridge was empty all the time when I was there.

My experience: I had to pay for a thermos flask asking the room service. When I brought the thermos to the room service place asked for one more round, they asked me "one dollar". Bottle water in hotel was expensive like hell. Actually people asked visitor "one dollar" for most of the thing they did. (Things got better after that when we reached Alexandria but it was another story that I will tell you later.)

Tips: Buy water from outside. Most of hotels banned in-house guests bringing food and water outside in but think of the price and quality. From outside store you can easy buy 1.5l bottled water of Pepsi or Coca Cola or Nestlé with 1/3 to 1/2 price in comparison to the price of a local one in the hotel. The choice is yours.

TBC.
